Belly of the Beast

Role: Special Effects Supervisor

This gothic fantasy film was set on a boat but was shot on stage. To help create the illusion of being on the water, we attached a monofilament rig to some of the set dressing.

This film included a motion capture shoot for a fight between mermaids, so I built a spine-like puppet to capture realistic tail movement.

We ran a tube from a bee smoker outside the set into a stove through the chimney pipe to simulate burning food.

Homer: Great Teller of Tales

Role: SFX Supervisor

This film was set in Mount Olympus and the Underworld, so the team asked for thick low-lying fog. Dry ice fog gave us what we were looking for, its density and resistance to rising making it optimal for long takes. A plastic barrier was run around the set to contain the fog.

Suga Brown

Role: SFX Co-Supervisor (with Jonny Weaver)

A water birth scene required safe practices surrounding electrical equipment and maintenance of a comfortable water temperature for the talent. We kept a pump on standby to run cool water to a storm drain and a running supply of warm water to replace it.

Electrical Soldering

For an unreleased project, I did the electrical soldering for a pneumatic mortar control system based on wiring plans drawn up by SFX Supervisor Lucas Saunders.
